Should you drink juice as part of your fruit and vegetables everyday?

Everywhere you turn, juice is a no-no. OK, let's clear this up a bit.

You've heard that in order to get the benefit of the lycopene in tomatoes, the tomatoes have to be cooked? So in order to get those benefits, you want to eat spaghetti sauce, or tomato soup, or cook with tomatoes, or drink tomato juice or V8. (another great source of lycopene is watermelon, and you don't have to cook it.) I read about a study where the 'subjects' drank tomato juice every day for 3 weeks. They significantly lowered their blood pressure. Cool! Better than drugs in my book.

Cranberry juice is a huge powerhouse of nutrients. Red grape juice and orange juice are pretty powerful too. So you see, juice is an easy way to get more vitamins into your system. But - Highly sugared kiddie juices are a no-no. And try to avoid anything with corn syrup listed in the first few ingredients like the plague! All this yummy corn syrup (or high fructose corn syrup) is one of the major causes of type II diabetes. Major sugar overload for your body.

And not all of your fruit and vegetable requirements should come from juice. You almost always get the most out of a whole food instead of a by-product. So you'll get more nutrients from a whole orange than you will from a glass of juice.

Even so, these juices are an easy way to increase your fruit and vegetable intake everyday.

And fresh lemonade is a real treat too, isn't it? Lemons are a powerful source of nutrients.

Smoothies made with real fruit and yogurt are another great tasty way to get tons of nutrients in.

A lot of people question the fact that I recommend drinking coffee, and shouldn't it be decaf, and so on, and so on. But now, recent research shows that coffee is full of antioxidants and nutrients.

The decaffeinating process uses chemicals. Anytime you eat foods that are processed and add chemicals to your diet, you're taking a risk.

I hear from a lot of people that they don't like green tea. Up until recently, I felt the same way. But now, there are so many flavors, I'd have a hard time believing you can't find one you like.

I personally prefer the Bigelow Orange Spice flavored green tea. I've tried a couple of the Lipton flavors, and wasn't bowled over. And as weird as it may sound, I feel better when I drink the Bigelow. You can test it yourself and see what's best for you.

Green tea is also full of antioxidants. I've also heard that drinking green tea with a meal will help flush out excess fats from that meal. And patting the tea bag on your face (after it's cooled a bit) is great for your skin.

Green tea is a pretty amazing health drink. Do your best to add it to your diet.

Bottoms Up!
